PhD Journal Club

The talks are intended to be accessible to a general mathematical audience. In particular, the aim of the talks is to:

  1. Introduce a field of mathematics not currently offered in regular coursework.
  2. Encourage students to read more widely within the field of mathematics rather than just within their PhD specialisation.
  3. Have the talks in an informal comfortable setting.
  4. Encourage discussions through an easy-pace.

The benefits of being involved in the talks are:

  1. Extending your knowledge base beyond your PhD topic and undergraduate studies.
  2. Improve your presentation skills.
  3. Strengthen critical thinking and questioning abilities.
  4. Get to know other students within mathematics.

Talks are presented by postgraduate research students in the Discipline of Mathematics at the University of Queensland. All postgraduate students in the Discipline are encouraged to participate.

The talks are currently held most Thursdays at 2 pm in room 67-442. Regular announcements are emailed to members of the Discipline of Mathematics. However if you are not on the email list you can email the coordinator, Katrina Hibberd (keh@maths.uq.edu.au) and ask to be added to the email list. Alternatively, you can regularly check the updated schedule below.
