Advice for Course Coordinators |
| Please read this information about tutor eligibility carefully before deciding whether you wish to submit an application form for tutoring.
Tutors are generally PhD, Honours or advanced undergraduate students, although there may be some positions for tutors who are 2nd year students. Tutors can be employed for one or both semesters in a year, depending upon the School's needs. In many cases, a tutor employed in Semester 1 will be re-employed in Semester 2, but the School cannot offer any guarantees as there may be reduced demand for tutors in Semester 2.
TUTOR SELECTION CRITERIAPotential tutors are required to submit an application using the appropriate form. Sections left blank may jeopardise your chances of selection. Tutors will be selected according to the following criteria:
Please note the above points carefully. Many tutoring applications are received but only a limited number of places are available. In recent years, all of our tutors have had high GPAs, have completed a number of relevant courses, and are enrolled in further relevant study. If your application does not reflect these criteria, then it is very unlikely that your application will be successful. If you are not a student within the School, it may be more appropriate to apply for tutoring in your own discipline. As the School receives many more applicants than positions available, it is unavoidable that many students will be unsuccessful and disappointed. You are welcome to re-apply in subsequent semesters, particularly if your circumstances change (such as your GPA rises, or you enroll in more relevant courses).
THE SELECTION PROCESSApplications are due in the middle of February (for Semester 1) and the middle of July (for Semester 2). You should make sure your application is submitted before these dates, preferably by the end of January or the end of June. Tutors are selected according to demand and all successful applicants will be contacted. Unfortunately, the School is not in a position to contact unsuccessful applicants. If you are selected, you will be required to attend tutor training in the first week of semester (if you have not previously been trained). You will need to confirm that you are available to take up a tutorial position in the week prior to the commencement of semester. |
